Idling emission at signalised intersection – a case study in Delhi.

  Exhaust emissions from idling vehicles at signalised traffic intersections is always of interest to researcher. In this paper, a case study of Ashram intersection of Delhi is presented to find out the emissions by vehicles during idling delays. Factor affecting emission were collected and coded as inputs to customize the MOVES2010b. From the developed model, it was found that 3.997 mg/m3 of hydrocarbon, 1.82mg/m3 of NOx,and 17.688 mg/m3 of carbon-monoxide is emitted from the cars, trucks and buses respectively at Ashram intersection in one day. As there are 600 intersections in all over Delhi, total of 2398.055 mg/m3 mg/m3 of hydrocarbon, 1087.068mg/m3 of NOx, and 10612.612mg/m3 of Carbon-monoxide was emitted from cars, trucks and buses in a day in all of Delhi. Results were validated with real world traffic data emission data. These results can be useful to reduce pollutant, energy saving, increase mobility and fuel efficiency in sustainable manner.
