Let us teach the way we preach: using economic concepts in IT-assisted continuous assessment scheme for introductory economics module.
The paper describes the process and impact on student learning of a new IT-assisted continuous assessment scheme used in Economics 1 first year undergraduate module delivered at Napier University Business School in the academic years 2006/07 and 2007/08. This experience could serve as a good practice case for any undergraduate module assessment scheme. The new IT-assisted continuous assessment scheme was built using Web-CT platform. With usage of basic economic concepts of principal-agent problem and utility analysis it has been based on Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) with extensive use of extrinsic type of motivation. (Deci & Ryan, 2000).
