Tree fellers revisited - the interrogation of a documentary by its audience
The project aims to interrogate the post-colonial uses of documentary film in narrating the colonial experience.  The purpose of the field work is to generate a new body of material which, juxtaposed with elements from the original film, will allow the de- and re-construction of the original narrative in the context of its reception and use over the intervening ten year period both in Belize and elsewhere (e.g. as part of the Imperial War Museum's Black History Month in successive years 2005-2008). The resultant documentary will address the (primary research) question: 'How does an outsider documentary influence the perception and retelling of events by one of its tacit audiences?’
