Our support services are here to help you get the most out of your time at Napier, and plan for your life after University. We provide academic and personal advice and guidance as well as support for students with a disability or health condition.

Academic Skills Workshops 

The Academic Skills Team offer a range of workshops plus online courses and materials to help you enhance the skills you need to succeed in postgraduate study. Skills include advanced critical thinking, evaluation and synthesis, academic writing, poster presentations, literature reviewing and dissertation management. English Language Support

We offer free in-session English language support to all our international students to help improve your language skills so that you can excel in your studies. Practise your English and get feedback to further enhance your learning.

Career and Skills Development Team

The Career and Skills Development Team are here to support students and graduates to find the right job. You can book an appointment for one-to-one career guidance and coaching, and attend workshops on a range of topics such as CVs, cover letters, labour market information and professional skills development. There is also information available online you can work through in your own time. If you’re applying for a specific opportunity, the team run mock interviews and assessment centres so you can be as prepared as possible.

Graduate Recruitment Team

The Graduate Recruitment Team connect you with employers, whether to support work experience, internships, or part-time work alongside study. They also lead the University’s flagship Student Ambassador Scheme, where current students have the opportunity to earn alongside your studies by helping to represent the University at key events, such as open days.

Employer Engagement Team

The Employer Engagement Team ensure that the University is connected with the latest in industry. They work with professional bodies to arrange events such as industry guest lectures, so you remain aware of advances in your subject area and how your knowledge can relate to it. They also run the Student Futures Festival, our all-discipline graduate careers fair which takes place annually in October.

Personal support services

Counselling and mental wellbeing

Our counselling service offers non-judgemental and accepting environment by dedicated and qualified counsellors.

  • One to one assessment and counselling, in general, up to 5 sessions.
  • Student can self-refer by e-mailing counselling@napier.ac.uk.
  • Short-term counselling can include student-lead exploration and goal orientation. This can include explorations and goals regarding your studies as well as your life in general.
  • Counselling can help with building emotional resilience during periods in a student’s life when they are feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed.  
  • Counselling offers a space that allows for support and exploration of personal and relational difficulties (past or present) where the student can develop new resources and coping strategies.
  • As a service we can, with the student’s agreement, also look at referral to other support within the community.
Our counsellors can help you by providing:
  • a confidential space to talk about things
  • a sensitive, listening environment
  • help to manage stress and anxiety
  • a range of therapeutic approaches

Our mental health advisers can help if you:

  • have an existing mental health condition
  • are feeling anxious or depressed
  • are worried about your mental health
  • want to plan how to stay well while at university

Faith and spirituality

We have a range of facilities and support available to everyone. Quiet rooms are located at each campus and can be used for prayer or somewhere to relax. For further information contact spiritualcare@napier.ac.uk.

Nightline

Nightline is a confidential support and information service run by students for students. You can talk to someone from 8pm to 8am online or by calling 0131 557 4444.

International student support

ENSA Advice at Edinburgh Napier Students Association can help you with accessing money advice (budgeting and tips) and accessing essentials if you are in need. Please note that ENSA advice cannot help with university fees payment.
