Computing students at Edinburgh Napier have received a training boost after Huawei Technologies donated more than 100 free exam vouchers for one of its leading certifications.

The global telecommunications company is giving every computing student at the University the chance to pass its HCNA certification exam for free.

The certification – which normally costs $200 to complete – provides training in the basic configuration and maintenance of small to medium-sized networks. Training topics include network fundamentals, troubleshooting of common network faults as well as the installation and commissioning of Huawei routing and switching devices.

Edinburgh Napier become a partner of Huawei Technologies earlier this year and is an official member of the HAINA Academy – a not-for-profit programme that authorises universities, colleges and schools to deliver Huawei certification courses.

The partnership has seen the University’s School of Computing work closely with the innovative programme to deliver a range of industry standard training and certification to students with an aim of enhancing their employability and playing a part in filling the global ICT skills gap.

The HCNA certification voucher donation is the latest extension of this developing relationship. Imed Romdhani, an Associate Professor within Edinburgh Napier’s School of Computing, is delighted to receive the donation on behalf of the University.

He said: “This is an interesting professional networking certification opportunity for our students as they will receive a double industry recognised certification – both Cisco CCNA and Huawei HCNA. Those who pass will also have the chance to enter the Huawei ICT competition that will run in April next year.

“We continue to be grateful to Huawei for its continued relationship with Edinburgh Napier and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the company in the coming months to help our students acquire professional and practical skills.”
