This worksheet looks closely at visual and written material from The Hydra, magazine of Craiglockhart War Hospital, to provide a real insight into how officers with shell shock were affected, suffered and recovered during the First World War.

With this worksheet, students write two newspaper articles on the Battle of the Somme from two different perspectives – 'for' and 'against'. This develops skills in information gathering, planning, structuring and writing an article. It also introduces a solid understanding of the use and power of propaganda and differing viewpoints in times of war (and even when we are not at war).
