Professor Christine Cross

Picture of Christine Cross standing and smiling. Christine Cross is Professor of Human Resource Management at Edinburgh Napier University where she is the Dean of the Business School. Prior to joining Edinburgh Napier Christine worked at the University of Limerick in Ireland at the Kemmy Business School where she held the roles of Head of Department, Work & Employment Studies and Interim Dean of the Business School. Christine joined academia from an industry background where she worked for a number of multinational organisations in both management and human resource management roles in both the UK and Ireland. 

Her research, consultancy and publication interests include the broad area of diversity, with a focus on gender inequality in the workplace and the workforce experiences of immigrants. She regularly publishes in leading international journals including Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Economic and Industrial Democracy, International Journal of Human Resource Management and European Societies Journal. She has also co-edited five third level textbooks which are sold internationally.

As both PI and CI in various consortia she has successfully attracted almost 2million euro in funding for research from a number of national and international bodies including the European Commission, COST and Erasmus +. 

Christine has also won a number of awards including the Emerald/European Foundation for Management Development Outstanding Doctoral Research Award and the UL Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2018 Christine successfully led the Kemmy Business School to becoming the first Business School in Ireland to achieve the Athena SWAN Bronze award, and one of only 6 across the UK and Ireland at that time. 

Christine was a member of the Irish Academy of Management Council for many years and has held the position of Vice Chair and Chair of the Awards Committee. Christine is also an active member of the CIPD. Her work with the CIPD has extended to conducting an annual national survey of HR practices for CIPD Ireland over a number of years. HR practices in Ireland 2023 | CIPD

Her consultancy work covers both private and non-for-profit clients. She is a regular contributor on issues related to gender in the workplace in the Irish national media outlets including the Irish Times, Sunday Business Post, RTE and Newstalk.
