Why is the University changing its name?
Research has shown that outside Scotland there is low awareness of the University, specifically that it is based in Edinburgh. The city of Edinburgh is a key motivating factor which we believe will further enhance Napier’s strength and reputation for staff, students, businesses and our local community.
What are the benefits of this?
The research indicated that awareness of Napier is low outside of the Lothians area and alumni often have to explain its location to employers. The name change is part of a wider exercise intended to extend the reach and reputation of the University beyond our immediate catchment area. By increasing student numbers, the University can continue its ongoing investment into its infrastructure and continue the many grants and scholarships it is able to offer. However, it is not only student numbers that are important to the University – awareness and involvement from business and other stakeholders serve to create a sustainable future.
