David Allfrey

David Allfrey has lived ”a privileged life of rich experiences and encounters”.  He is ”interested in just about everything” and whilst he claims to be ”no expert”, he has a knack for bringing people together and stimulating common purpose.  David served 34 years in the Army.  He commanded The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and its battlegroup for two tours in Kosovo and the 51st (Scottish) Brigade based in Stirling.  David retired from the Army in 2011 to become Producer, Chief Executive and de facto Creative Director of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.  He is now a freelance producer/director, mentor, lecturer and consultant, majoring in ‘soft power’ and cultural diplomacy.

David is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an Honorary Doctor at Edinburgh Napier University, a Senior Associate Fellow of the Institute for Statecraft, an International Advisory Council Member for the Asia Scotland Institute and an Honorary Fellow of the Marketing Society.  In 2020, David was awarded The Silver Thistle for his contribution to Scottish Tourism.
