Led by Peter Wilson the Wood Studio focuses on the creative use of timber in the architecture, design and construction of buildings and structures (covering both the interior and exterior environments). It has a key objective to promote the use of timber and timber products (e.g. Cross Laminated panels, cladding, glulam) within the more creative sector of the market, with an emphasis on architects and designers.

The Wood Studio also provides advanced education and training to architects and other building industry professionals on the various timber species, timber products and timber construction systems via its Continuing Professional Development programme of specialist lectures, conferences, seminars and workshops.

Complementary to these core activities, consultancy advice can be provided to individual construction professionals as well as to practices, companies, manufacturers and other organisations seeking to use timber in their building projects.
Currently under development by the Wood Studio is a new Masters degree programme which will be delivered by Edinburgh Napier University and is aimed at promoting and supporting innovation in timber design within the architectural sector. The degree will be structured around a range of applied research projects, with topics such as the performance and constructional uses of different wood species and modified timber products explored through a range of built demonstration projects.
