An Edinburgh Napier student has beaten off thousands of budding advertising whizzes to win a prestigious award.
Seán Callery (23), from County Louth in Ireland, won Cadbury’s Create an Ad competition, seeing off competition from over 5,000 other entrants.
As part of the prize, the ad was recently aired on national television in Ireland. Sean also received €10,000 in prize money.
Seán, who is studying for an MSc in Creative Advertising at Edinburgh Napier, said: “I was absolutely over the moon to win the competition. It was a total shock, but a very, very pleasant one.
“It was the first time I’d ever made an ad and I only entered as a bit of practice for the course I’m doing. Needless to say it’s a great way to start off in advertising and I’m extremely grateful to Cadbury for giving me the opportunity.”
Seán made a one-minute video entitled ‘Raising the Bar’ in which a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk is raised like a child from birth to when it leaves the house.
Seán’s parents Tony and Maria were even enlisted to play the role of the bar’s parents.
A panel of expert judges whittled down the 5,311 entries to ashortlist of five and the eventual winner was chosen by public vote.
Seán’s ad was then produced professionally and shown on Irish television channel TV3.
Seán added: “The whole voting process was very nerve racking but it was definitely worth the nerves in the end. It was very strange seeing it on television but it’s a very nice memory to have."
Seán’s creation joins Cadbury’s list of famous ads which include Glass and a Half Full Productions such as ‘Gorilla’, ‘Eyebrows’ and ‘Trucks’ as well as such iconic creations as the Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Bunny and The Milk Tray Man.
