Dr Jon Stinson

Biography

Jon works as a research fellow in the Scottish Energy Centre and a module leader within the Architectural Technology undergraduate programme.

His research focuses around human behavior and energy use in the built environment. Jon has been studying and working in the field of architecture and the built environment since 2002. He is currently researching in the fields of smart homes technology and architecture, human experience and comfort of their environment, sustainable communities, and hygrothermal performance of buildings.

Jon has worked on research projects within Edinburgh Napier University since 2008 where he completed his PhD on occupant energy behaviour change with smart display technology. Jon leads on a number of national research projects whilst supporting and contributing to international research projects.

Jon has worked on research projects in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland, National Trust for Scotland (NTS), Edinburgh World Heritage Trust, Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI), 8 Scottish Social Housing Associations and 10 Scottish SMEs. This work involved the research and development of innovative products, services, policies and procedures. The impact of which has led to the improvement of the sustainability of existing and new housing stock which supports the health and wellbeing of the occupants.

Jon has co-authored 7 Technical Papers on the topic of sustainable development for pre 1919 and pot 2010 dwellings. Jon has also produced 11 peer-reviewed research papers on the topics of energy efficiency and human energy use in buildings.
