Alpha 2 Agonists for Sedation to produce Better Outcomes from Critical Illness (A2B TRIAL): A Parallel Group Randomised Controlled Trial Comparing Clonidine, Dexmedetomidine and Current Usual Care
This is a prospective three-arm randomised placebo-controlled trial to compare the effect of the early addition of dexmedetomidine or clonidine to current analgo-sedation practice on the duration of mechanical ventilation, compared with current analgo-sedation practice alone among adult critically ill patients requiring greater than 48-72 hours of mechanically ventilation.
Primary outcomes are: Time to first extubation from mechanical ventilation and Ventilation-free hours during 28 days follow-up
Secondary outcomes are: Clinical outcomes, Safety outcomes, Patient reported outcome and experience measures and Economic outcomes.
