Conrad, Wells and Emergent Modernism
This project investigates the relationship between Joseph Conrad and H. G. Wells in the context of emergent modernism and literary influence. It will result in a monograph of c200 pages, entitled Conrad, Wells and the Emergence of Modernism. This proposal is therefore a request for the funding to visit the H. G. Wells Archive in Illinois in order to carry out essential archival research to inform the project. This archive contains material that has not previously been consulted in terms of Conrad and Wells and thus this visit will bring to light new material about the relationship between these two authors and about the emergence of literary modernism in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries
