Stress Physiology of South African Ungulates
This study will evaluate the stress physiology of South African ungulates (antelope) under two methods of control/management; capture for translocation, and culling. The research will provide guidance to the South African wildlife industry on effective management of wild ungulates to benefit animal welfare. The physiological stress experienced by the animals will be evaluated via blood and salivary sample chemistry. Recommendations will be made to minimise animal stress via capture and cull; benefiting animal health and welfare, and the wildlife industry.
