Lunar New Year in Edinburgh
“I have celebrated The Lunar New Year in Edinburgh almost every year since the Year of Horse in 2015. The most common practice is making dumplings and sharing with friends.
Last year I had lots of fun taking part in the Chinese folk dance – see photo! It was nice to have an audience of full Chinese and local people on the day. We met the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Edinburgh. Many well wishes were made and received.”
Lunar New Year in China
“The Lunar New Year celebration officially starts on 23rd December and lasts till 15th January (Lunar Calendar). Throughout this period, decorations are placed in the house, food and gifts are ordered, trips home are planned way ahead of time.
As a family tradition, we make dumplings on the New Year's Eve. Bigger feasts start on the New Year's Day itself. We meet our folks, talk about the past year, and pray for a better year - of course we also drink and have fun!”
