Leading figures from a range of fields have been included in the 2023 intake
Edinburgh Napier University academics have been elected to the Royal Society of Edinburgh, joining a group of leading thinkers as a Fellows of the prestigious organisation.
Professor Lis Neubeck from the School of Health and Social Care (pictured above) is among 91 names being inducted as part of the 2023 intake, which recognises the outstanding contribution from some of Scotland’s most prominent health experts.
As cardiac nurse and Head of Cardiovascular Health at ENU, Professor Neubeck’s research focuses on innovative solutions to secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, the identification and management of atrial fibrillation, and use of new technologies to improve access to health care.
Her work across the international healthcare community, from being an honorary professor at Sydney Nursing School, to past President of the Association of Cardiovascular Nurses and Allied Professionals of the European Society of Cardiology means she brings extensive experience of overseas collaboration to the RSE.
Responding to her Fellowship, she said: “I am honoured at this recognition from the Society and accept it proudly on behalf of all cardiac nursing professionals who have such an important role in patient experience.
“Scotland leads the way in cardiovascular health, and in a few weeks will be welcoming professionals from across the world to Edinburgh to share new scientific developments and technologies.”
Professor Alyson Tobin
Emeritus Professor at Edinburgh Napier University Alyson Tobin (pictured below) is also among this year's inductees.
Professor Tobin has had more than 100 articles published during a prolific research career in biochemistry and plant psychology. She spent several years as Edinburgh Napier University's Vice Principal of Learning and Teaching, until 2021.
She is already a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.

As well as healthcare, leading figures from other fields, including arts, business and sport, are also included in the 2023 Fellows List.
The RSE’s current Fellowship of around 1,800 is made up of some of the greatest thinkers, researchers and practitioners working in or with Scotland today.
The new intake follows in the footsteps of a venerable list of Fellows, including Peter Higgs, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Tessa Holyoake, James Clerk Maxwell and James Watt, whose impact on society in Scotland, and beyond, has changed the way our nation works.
