Sustainable Development Goal 15 Life on land

The fifteenth of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals is Life On Land - to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Approach

As stewards of three campuses in Edinburgh, we work to ensure ecosystem and biodiversity values into our planning (Target 15.9) and actively work to protect rare and protected species on our land.

You can read more on our main environmental sustainability pages, including how we are working towards sustainability for food on campus, our commitment to our supply chain, and how we manage waste, including responsible management of any hazardous materials.

Research

Our Centre for Conservation and Restoration Science is an interdisciplinary research centre committed to delivering innovative science and solutions to help conserve, rebuild and enhance biodiversity and ecosystems.

Our research on ecosystems, including land ecosystems, are available for all in our research repository and include outputs on waste disposal, forests, and more broadly on the “wild”.

Teaching

Our Masters-level Wildlife Biology & Conservation MSc is accredited by the The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.

Our undergraduate level Animal & Conservation Biology BSc (Hons) and Marine & Freshwater Biology BSc (Hons) are accredited by the Royal Society of Biology. These educational programmes focus on ecosystems including flora and fauna.

Our Tourism, Hospitality, Festival & Events Management courses cover sustainable management of land for tourism, for example in our Tourism Impacts and Sustainable Development, Tourism Concepts and Issues, Contemporary Issues in Heritage and Cultural Tourism, and Managing Heritage Tourism modules.

We welcome students from Scotland, the UK and overseas on these programmes.
