Lecture Title: Live Performance – how is it relevant in the lives of children and young people today?

Lecture Synopsis: "Children need to go to the theatre as much as they need to run about in the fresh air." Philip Pullman, writer (2004) Festival Director Noel Jordan will talk about why he thinks this quote is as relevant now as it was nearly 15 years ago and why he believes that children, regardless of background or circumstances, deserve the best art possible. He will discuss why theatre and dance should stimulate and inspire young people to consider their identity and place in the world. And why it’s important that 'digital natives' develop creativity, imagination and a mind opened to possibilities to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.

Lecture begins at 17:30 followed by the drinks reception at 18:30.
