Radio presenters Boogie and Arlene swapped the studio for the stage as they were awarded honorary doctorates by Edinburgh Napier University (ENU).

The pair, who have built up a devoted following as the hosts of Boogie in the Morning, have been recognised by ENU for their award-winning broadcasting career and work to promote charitable causes.Boogie and Arlene in the Forth 1 studios with their gowns and honorary degrees

The daily breakfast show, which they present alongside Producer Marty, is now broadcast on Forth 1 and across Scotland. It has drawn widespread industry recognition, beating high profile competitors to win Best Music Breakfast Show at the Audio & Radio Industry Awards in both 2024 and 2025.

Following this morning’s show [Thursday 30 October 2025], they made the short trip to Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, where they were formally made Doctors of the University during a graduation ceremony.

Boogie said: “The ceremony was such a special occasion.

“We have met so many amazing people today and want to say special thanks to everyone at Edinburgh Napier University.”

Arlene said: “I’m deeply honoured. It was a very emotional experience especially with my parents here.

“I never thought they would see this happen. It’s been a proud moment for them and me.”

Presenting Boogie and Arlene with their doctorates, Geoff Day, Director of Marketing and External Relations at Edinburgh Napier University, said: “Boogie and Arlene have been welcome guests at breakfast tables across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and further afield for nearly 20 years.

“Now multiple award-winning broadcasters, in true Edinburgh Napier fashion, they carved their careers out from humble beginnings through lashings of grit, graft and gumption.

“Key to their success is the pride they have for the community that they live in and serve. While they have interviewed the likes of Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars, they are equally warm to Colin from Leith or Susan from Kirkcaldy. Boogie and Arlene with their honorary degrees at the Usher Hall

“Fun, irreverent, rooted in and tremendously supportive of the local community, their longevity and accolades demonstrate their continued professionalism.

“Their ability to adapt and stay relevant in a fast-changing world mirrors the mission of Edinburgh Napier and I welcome them to our community.”

Originally from the Scottish Borders, Andrew Bouglas, or Boogie, started out as a sales rep for iconic knitwear brand Pringle while also presenting on hospital radio. He first started his broadcasting career as a volunteer at Radio Borders in 1991, going onto work for Northsound in Aberdeen, before joining Radio Forth in 2001.

Having first worked at Scottish Express Freight, Arlene Stuart became a receptionist at Grampian Television, going on to work as a continuity announcer and newsreader. From there, she hit TV screens presenting Country Matters and The River – and is now well-known as a regular presenter on long-running Scottish countryside programme Landward.

Boogie and Arlene teamed up at Forth 1 in 2008. As well as their hugely popular breakfast show, they host the radio station’s annual Forth Awards – which are also held at the Usher Hall – and have helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for Forth 1’s Cash for Kids, a charity for which Boogie also served as a board member.

Individually, in May 2024 Boogie ran the Edinburgh Marathon for the first time alongside 100 other first-time runners – the Forth 100 – who supported each other on the journey and raised £160,000. He has also fundraised for Crohn's Disease charities, having been diagnosed with the condition in 1994.

Arlene is also actively involved in supporting a number of NHS and grassroots charities alongside the likes of Age Scotland and local children’s cancer charity Jak’s Den.
