The International Centre for Management and Governance Research (ICMGR) aims to bring together academic and professional knowledge on international management and governance.
The Centre embraces a multi-disciplinary approach and is built on research interests from across the Craiglockhart-based Business School, including accountability and audit, labour market studies, debt contracting, transparency in private and public entities, effective Governance practice and responsible business practice.
Other areas of interest include business ethics, ethical investment, Islamic finance/investment, financial regulation, HRM, HRD, leadership in board governance and embracing diversity and leadership in SMEs and entrepreneurship.
The Centre’s Director, Professor Maura Sheehan, said: “We are in the process of building a world class community of practice, including hosting visiting scholars and practitioners. The Centre is yet another avenue for Edinburgh Napier to progress our Strategy 2020 agenda of enhancing our international reputation for quality research.”
Assistant Director, Dr Marizah Minhat, said: “The ICMGR is one of the few institutions in the UK which provides an opportunity to showcase the importance and relevance of Islamic Finance for corporate governance, ethical finance and responsible business.”
The Leadership in Board Governance opportunity, headed by Dr Miles Weaver and on offer from next spring, will also be housed within the Centre.
Dr Weaver said: “The Leadership in Board Governance continuous professional development initiative is designed to meet the shortfall in both numbers and diversity of board membership, starting in Scotland but with the view to targeting the UK and international markets in the medium to long-term.
“This CPD opportunity links directly to the Scottish government’s concerns for equality and citizenship, as well as being strongly aligned to the University’s strategy and academic themes.
“Scotland has a unique approach to encouraging greater diversity in leadership and governance and Edinburgh Napier has a unique opportunity to provide a training and pipeline (part) solution.”
Professor James O’Kane, Dean of the Business School, said: “The ICMGR brings together research strengths in the School which straddle theory and praxis and provides a springboard for new collaborative working both within the School and externally.
“The Centre will provide a focus for the nurturing of early career researchers across many research thematic areas and support established research staff to work together to grow and develop our reputation and profile in Management and Governance Research and ultimately provide a strong focus for our Research Excellence Framework ambitions in the School.”
