A partnership between Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) and Guangxi University of Science and Technology (GXUST) has been recognised for its difference-making work at the China-Scotland Business Awards.

The Joint Education Programme (JEP) was named Educational Partnership of the Year during a ceremony as part of a Chinese Burns Supper in Glasgow on Thursday evening, organised by the China-Britain Business Council.

The award aims to recognise strong examples of collaboration for the impact they have on the next generation of young people and cutting-edge research, as well as the wider Scotland-China business community.

The partnership between ENU and GXUST was first set up in 2015, becoming the first mechanical engineering JEP in southwest China. Graduates play a significant role in developing the region’s economy, as part of ENU’s aim to create opportunities for students and staff around the world.

Naomi Graham, Vice Principal International at Edinburgh Napier University said: “This award is a great honour and recognition of all the staff involved in the collaboration across both universities.Edinburgh Napier University at the China-Scotland Business Awards

“This is a partnership we are really proud of and one we have continued to develop through the pandemic.

“We have expanded the collaboration into a number of new areas in recent years including a joint-supervision PhD programme and a staff development programme, building on the already successful partnership for the delivery of our BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in Liuzhou.

“We hope this recognition will help to raise the profile of the successful work we have done so far and strengthen the link between our universities, helping it to grow further in the years to come.”

Last year saw a fourth cohort of students from the JEP successfully graduate, while an application to extend the programme was also approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
