Edinburgh Napier’s Dr Eva Malone is one of 55 new National Teaching Fellows announced by Advance HE today (5 August 2021).
Advance HE’s National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) scheme celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education.
The scheme began in 2000 and to date has awarded more than 1,000 fellowships. It is widely regarded as the most prestigious award in higher education learning and teaching in the UK.

Dr Malone is the programme leader for a suite of biological sciences undergraduate programmes accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) within Edinburgh Napier’s School of Applied Sciences and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
On receiving her award, Dr Eva Malone said: “I am a little overwhelmed but incredibly excited at the opportunities the National Teaching Fellowship will create and the platform it will provide for me to continue to positively impact student outcomes and the teaching profession. At this moment, I am thinking of all the students that have inspired me to innovate, try new approaches or just keep going and my thanks goes to them and colleagues that have supported me along the way.”
Alison Johns, Chief Executive of Advance HE, said, “I am delighted to congratulate the 2021 NTFS awardees on their achievements. This year marks the 1000th National Teaching Fellowship award. “Over the years, each and every NTF has made an impact on the sector – both on the students they teach and on their fellow teaching staff who look to them for inspiration and guidance.”
