Award winning radio hosts and longstanding presenters of Forth 1’s breakfast show, Boogie and Arlene, are among the leading names set to be honoured by Edinburgh Napier University (ENU).

Andrew Bouglas and Arlene Stuart will be awarded honorary doctorates as part of ENU’s autumn graduation ceremonies, which are being held this week.Andrew Bouglas standing

Alongside Producer Marty, the pair have become household names across Edinburgh and beyond as the faces of Boogie in the Morning, which they have presented together since 2008. They shared the news of their upcoming graduation with listeners on this morning’s edition [Tuesday 28 October] of the programme.

As well as growing a dedicated community of listeners, the show has drawn industry recognition, winning Best Music Breakfast Show at Audio & Radio Industry Awards in 2024 – before retaining it this year. They have also played a major part in raising thousands of pounds by championing local charities, such as Forth 1’s Cash For Kids.

Boogie and Arlene will be formally named Doctors of the University on Thursday [30 October] at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall – on the same stage where they host the Forth Awards every year.

Boogie and Arlene said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be getting a doctorate from Edinburgh Napier University. It’ll be a surreal moment, swapping our studio headphones for academic gowns.

“For two people who usually just talk nonsense and drink coffee of a morning we’re truly humbled to be recognised by this fantastic Edinburgh institution.Arlene Stuart standing with her arms folded

“We've always just aimed to connect with our listeners, so to be recognised for our contribution to broadcasting and the local community is a massive privilege.

“We are looking forward to performing our first operation soon…”

Professor Sue Rigby, Principal and Vice Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier University, said: “Graduations are the highlight of our academic year, and we are eagerly looking forward to recognising the efforts of our students.

“Each of our honorary graduates have made a significant contribution to their walks of life, all while embodying our core values.

“Boogie and Arlene’s broadcasting and charitable efforts mirror ENU’s mission of making a positive difference with a good-humoured spirit, rooted in their community.”

Boogie and Arlene are joined by three other notable figures who will be awarded honorary doctorates by Edinburgh Napier University this week in recognition of their contributions to their communities.
