Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) has agreed a partnership with Newgiza University (NGU) in Egypt as part of a collaboration on pharmaceutical science.
The five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NGU’s School of Pharmacy will establish a strategic framework focused on advanced research training, professional development and research activity.
The partnership builds on joint research in drug design and the discovery of novel drug candidates targeting melanoma. This was initiated through the visit of an NGU student to ENU in October 2025.
Under the agreement, both institutions will explore opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate student exchange programs, joint research projects, conferences and co-authored academic publications.
The formal MoU was signed during a recent gathering of representatives from both universities in Egypt - including Dr Usama Ammar from ENU’s School of Applied Sciences.
Dr Ammar, a Lecturer of Drug Discovery and Pharmaceutical Science, said: “This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing research excellence, enhancing student learning experiences and fostering global engagement.
“The partnership will offer exciting new research and exchange opportunities for our students and academics.
“We look forward to working closely with our colleagues at Newgiza University and to the outcomes this partnership will generate in the years ahead.”
