The Exhibition

Visitors are taken back in time to come face to face with the horrors and unfaltering camaraderie of trench warfare, and to consider the effects of the First World War on the minds and bodies of those men who fought.  

The exhibition area was made possible with the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, other organisations and individual donors. It was officially opened on 11th November 2005 by the broadcaster and journalist, Dr Allan Little.   

Created by staff at the University, exhibition designers Studio SP and multimedia designers CMC Associates, the exhibition provides a glimpse into the minds of the poets, patients and medical staff at Craiglockhart, using contemporary photographs, books, film, audio and memorabilia. We hope it will offer visitors a unique insight into the motivations of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen and a greater understanding of the important personal, social and medical achievements that occurred within the walls of Craiglockhart War Hospital.

The exhibition also provides the War Poets Collection with the home it deserves, in the correct environmental conditions that will preserve it for visitors to enjoy today and in the future.

Accessing the War Poets Collection Exhibition

The War Poets Collection is on permanent display and is located on the ground floor of the original building. The main entrance doors to the campus face Glenlockhart Road. 

The permanent exhibition is open to all members of the public for self-guided visits during Craiglockhart campus opening times. You are welcome to arrange an individual visit during the office hours, Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm. Please note that we are not able to offer guided tours, group visits or visits outwith normal business hours at the moment.

Car Parking

Visitor car parking spaces may be available on campus by prior arrangement with the University. Request a space at least 24 hours in advance by emailing heritage@napier.ac.uk stating your name, vehicle registration number, a phone number, and the date of your visit. Cars parked during the week without permission may be subject to a fine.
