8 February 2023: Dr Adrian Wisnicki (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) ‘Collaboration Across Disciplines and Cultures with One More Voice’
One More Voice is a digital humanities recovery project that identifies, documents, and critically engages with the voices of racialized creators in British imperial and colonial archives. The voices take multiple forms and appear in multiple genres. One More Voice seeks to introduce these rich and diverse materials to broad academic and public audiences. Recourse to the voices promises to transform our understanding of imperial and colonial history and literature while foregrounding perspectives that scholarship in majority has hitherto overlooked or silenced. This presentation will provide a wide-ranging introduction to One More Voice and its project practices. The presentation will begin with a discussion of the history of the project and its links to digital humanities, Victorian studies, and African studies. The presentation will then explore the design strategies and project practices of One More Voice. Finally, the presentation will discuss the work of One More Voice in promoting social justice, with a look at the project's focus on universal design and accessibility and with discussion of some of the project's most recent collaborative endeavors.
