Tell us a bit about your final year project?

My final year project focuses on taboo issues and getting people to talk about them. I ended up focusing on female issues - how they're not just female, they’re everyone's issues and getting men to discuss typically female issues. Things like postpartum depression and infertility. I’m making quite a big physical thing - had to go a bit extra. So I'm making a big pub, with a typographic bar, pink glasses, beer mats, beer taps and wallpaper. They're all typographic. And then two books to go alongside it.

How did you come up with the idea?

I feel like every like girl has experience with women's health issues, so it’s sort of personal experience. If they were just talked about more, way less people would be embarrassed and it would probably be better off for literally everyone. In terms of the visuals, I like handicraft, I do a lot of embroidery and stuff, but I also really like typography and books. So for me it’s about combining all those elements.

How do you feel about the degree show?

When I was in first year and looking at the degree show, I remember thinking wow, like how?! I will never be able to do that. And now, I’m looking at my own projects when they're finished and thinking, right, where has this come from? At what point did we take this leap? It is quite cool to be honest, I'm quite proud of everything. Hopefully it goes to plan, I'm quite excited to actually show friends and family what I do.

How would you describe the last four years?

It's been mental - that'd probably be it!
