Journalism
Our facilities include a news room, tv studio and radio studio, to ensure our students get hands-on experience of all types of journalism.

TV Studio

The TV Studio has 3 mobile pedestal mounted cameras, all with wireless Autocue monitors, tally lights and talkback, so producers can talk directly to hosts on camera. There is also a ceiling mounted lighting rig, with pantographs, as well as floor standing lights and green screen curtain, so students can work on projects with a range of different options for lighting and effects.
The TV Gallery has the latest Tricaster 410+ vision mixer and Flex controller, to give you an industry-level experience of producing visual media. The lights and studio radio mics are controlled from here and there is wireless talkback to the camera operators, floor manager and presenters.
The studio facilities are mainly used by Journalism and TV students but is available, and occasionally used by film students or to conduct interviews.

Radio Studio

The Radio Studio is used by Journalism students for Radio news modules. It also hosts Radio NRG run by students across several courses, and various podcasts. We are in the process of updating our radio facilities, which will include self-operated radio studio with Space for 4 speakers, broadcast quality microphones, 16 channel mixing desk integrated into custom built furniture, computers with access to live newswires and industry standard automated playout system.

Newsroom

The Newsroom is a 60-seater classroom containing PCs and iMacs, installed with Adobe Creative Suite and Avid Media Composer for students of usually journalism or television to be able to complete both visual and video projects.
The PCs run Electronic News Production System (ENPS), which means from the newsroom, you can control the autocue and Tricaster Vision Mixer in the TV studio & gallery. They also run Burli, our radio production software, which connects to our radio studio. You’ll get to use this if you’re studying Journalism or TV with us.
