Practice Rooms

Our 12 Practice Rooms cater to both ensemble and solo rehearsals. They are accessible 24/7 and constructed with sound-proofing and excellent acoustics in mind, ensuring the best possible environment for rehearsals.
There are 4 band Practice Rooms, labelled A-D, furnished with professional-grade backline equipment, including a 5-piece drum kit, 2 guitar amps, 1 bass amp, a keyboard, a PA system, and monitors. Our Individual Practice Rooms, numbered 1 – 7, serve as exclusive spaces for acoustic solo rehearsals. Each room is fully soundproofed and outfitted with an upright piano.
The Ensemble Room caters to the performance needs of larger acoustic ensembles, ranging from trios to quintets, and houses an extensive collection of percussion instruments.
The Practice Rooms have the capability to integrate with the studio control rooms, so students can produce high-fidelity audio recordings and gain hands-on experience in audio production.

Music Lab

Our Music Lab is both a classroom and self-directed study space, with 24 individual workstations open to all music students. Each is equipped with its own Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, MIDI controller and a full complement of software, including: Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic, Sibelius, and Max MSP. We host a wide array of classes in the space, from theory to production.

Studio 1 & Control Room

Our flagship studio, Studio 1, is accessible 24/7 for use by third and fourth-year production students and open to all students as performers. The control room is outfitted with a Neve BCM10 16-channel analogue mixing console and an impressive collection of top-tier analogue outboard equipment including a Manley Massive Passive, Vari-Mu, a pair of Distressors and UREI 1176. It also has a dedicated synth rack stocked with both classic analogue and digital synthesizers, and can cater for surround sound mixing applications, with the acoustically treated control room resulting in a world class 5.1 surround mixing environment.

A recording booth is seamlessly connected to the control room with floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides, providing an uninterrupted recording experience for musicians, engineers, and producers alike. The double-height ceiling and adaptable acoustic panels on the walls make it versatile for a variety of recording scenarios. We also offer high-quality backline equipment and a Yamaha baby grand piano. Students can choose from a comprehensive selection of industry-standard microphones for their sessions.

Studio A

Studio A & control room serves as an exceptional resource for production students in their second half of 2nd year, and throughout 3rd and 4th year. The centrepiece of the studio is our impressive SSL AWS 948 mixing console, which provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard workflows and processes. To further enhance the experience, we've equipped the studio with a variety of outboard effects and processors. The Studio A control room has the capability to connect with any of our practice rooms, thereby offering additional recording spaces, and is accessible to students 24/7.

Studio B

Studio B is our most user-friendly recording space, designed to emulate the kind of set-up students might have at home so they can plug in and record with ease. The studio also comes equipped with a selection of microphones, cables and stands for tracking, and has the capacity to act as a control room for recording in any of our 4 band practice rooms. The studio is also a 24-hour-access facility, open to all students, including those not specialising in production.

Recital Room

The Recital Room is a versatile and expansive teaching space that is perfect for a variety of teaching styles. It is commonly used for performance classes, where students can experience the atmosphere of a live performance while accompanied by a grand piano. The room's adaptable seating options make it ideal for a range of teaching scenarios, such as circular or small group settings, which are particularly beneficial for ensemble rehearsals and instrumental/vocal workshops. Equipped with studio monitors for exceptional playback and computer/projector-screen support, the room is utilised for a diverse assortment of practical workshop classes, both large and small, that cover a wide range of subjects including performance, composition and orchestration, teaching techniques and music therapy..
