Photography store
This is the photographic equipment store where students can book out photographic equipment such as digital cameras and lenses, film cameras and lenses and portable lighting such as speedlight flash guns and LED rotolight portable lighting kits. There are also a wide range of more specialised accessories available such as ring flash for macro (close up) work, lighting gels and filters etc.
Black and white printing & processing
D21 is our darkroom dedicated to producing black and white prints from negatives, with a custom designed darkroom sink and cascade print wash. The 10 enlarger bays allow black and white printing from 35mm through to "5X4" negatives on to variable contrast photographic paper. In D22, students can process black and white film, with a purpose-designed darkroom sink, 2 film drying cabinats and a film loading bay. The space also contains all the film developing equipment required to process and dry 35mm, medium format and 5"X4" negative film.
Colour film processing
All student colour negative film is processed by a technician, the film can then be scanned in our dedicated scanning and printing room to allow manipulation in photo editing software such as Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop. We have the facilities to process 35mm film through to 10" X 8" sheet film.
Print finishing room
The fully equipped print finishing room provides facilities for drying black and white prints as well as 2 cold pressure print laminating/mounting machines, allowing for the mounting of prints up to A0. We also have purpose built print storage space, so students can store their work as well as mount, cut and frame work for exhibitions.
Scanning and digital printing
This fully equipped printing and scanning workspace includes 6 iMac computer workstations each connected to an Epson 17" Professional roll paper printer. Four additional workstations are situated in the centre of the room as dedicated scanning set ups, with each iMac connected to an Epson A4 flatbed scanner with transparency hood, so students can scan flat art work or film material.
Available light studio
Our specialised available light studio is complete with north facing skylight and diffusers on the windows to allow for control of daylight entering the room. This studio is also a multi use space doubling as a lecture room and crit space.
LED continuous light studios
Studios D17 and D18 are equipped with 4 sets of Rotolights ( LED) and accessories for continuous light photography. Both studios are also equipped with a 2.7m wide roll paper background system which includes chroma blue and green backgrounds, allowing for more specialised lighting techniques. These spaces are ideal for table top and product photography projects, as well as portraiture.
Flash Studio
For portrait photography, we have 2 fully equipped Broncolour flash studios equipped with a Hi-Glide ceiling mounted lighting rig on which the flash units are attached. The lighting accessories include a full set of Broncolour modifiers including soft box's, reflectors with barndoors, beauty dish etc allowing a full range of lighting styles to be used. Both studios are also equipped with a 2.7m wide roll paper back ground system.
