What was your experience studying MA Journalism at Edinburgh Napier University?

I had a fantastic experience studying the MA Journalism course at Edinburgh Napier University. In comparison to my undergraduate degree which was International Relations, the Journalism course was very hands on and practical. The course was taught with our futures in mind and we were given a realistic view of what life as a journalist would be like.

I especially found the TV module really exciting as I loved going out on shoots and editing material. The teaching was of a high standard and I felt able to ask for extra help and support whenever I needed it. Projects often came with a strict deadline which is great preparation for the world of news.  Image of Vanessa in STV studio

What advice would you give someone considering studying their MA Journalism?

I would say see every task in the course as an opportunity to discover what type of journalism you are passionate about. Whether it is print, radio or TV, keep asking questions and don’t be afraid to get creative in the projects you are set - it’s an amazing opportunity to learn from those who have been in the industry for a long time so enjoy it!
