School of Engineering and the Built Environment Dubai Experience

Students from Edinburgh Napier’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment recently returned from an extraordinary trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Dubai Trip

This video was edited and produced by Ali Ridha, a BEng Civil Engineering student at Edinburgh Napier University who took part in the trip to Dubai.

Burj Khalifa in DubaiThe three-day immersive experience gave students who study architectural technology, construction, engineering and surveying related disciplines their first chance to witness the industry in a city that is the epitome of rapid growth. In addition to world-class experience, students made connections with global industry leaders who are pioneering projects in the most exciting environment of the era.

Over the course of the trip, students were able to attend talks from a range of high-profile organisations including: Nabih Elias Azzam and Partners (NEA), DAMAC Properties, RICS, CIOB, CIAT, Deloitte, Dubai Land Department, Dubai Economic Department, AE7 Architects, Dubai Expo 2020, Wasl, Emirates Green Building Council, Quantum Global Solutions and Jones Lang Lasalle. What’s more, students were granted intimate access to several construction sites at varying stages of completion, including: Aykon City, Damac Hills and Damac Akoya. In their free time, students took the opportunity to explore the vast metropolis of Dubai, visiting renowned landmarks such as the Dubai Frame and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

The University are particularly grateful to Nabih Elias Azzam and Partners (NEA) Chartered Surveyors and DAMAC Properties for their assistance in coordinating this trip. Furthermore, Dr Jaradat wishes to thank Mr Alasdair Reid and Mr Mike Thomson for their support and all students for their exemplary conduct whilst representing the University.

We aim to host this trip again in March 2021.
