Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 21 April 1926 - 8 September 2022

On behalf of Edinburgh Napier University, I want to express our deep sadness at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and send our condolences to the Royal Family for their loss. Queen Elizabeth earned the affection and admiration of our country and people across the world for how she dedicated herself to service and she was an example to us all. At this very sad time we give thanks for her extraordinary life and work.

Queen Elizabeth and HRH Prince Philip visited Edinburgh Napier in 1984, taking time to tour the Sighthill campus and open the newly extended library. We were also proud recipients of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize on two occasions, first in 2009 for innovative construction techniques to improve noise insulation in new-build homes, and then again in 2015 for our internationally acclaimed work in timber engineering, sustainable construction and wood science.

Edinburgh Napier will join with people around the world in mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth. We will share with you shortly how we intend to mark this occasion and honour her many years of service to people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
