We've helped these athletes improve their performance
Our team has worked with a number of top athletes to improve their skills. Our academics specialise in different areas from using biomechanics to perfect a rugby kick, to sports physiology to improve performance in professional mountain bikers. Below are some of the examples of the testing and equipment we can use to help you shape your training, but if you would like further information or any specific details our technicians are always happy to discuss your requirements with you before arranging an initial appointment.

We'd love to chat to you directly and talk you through how we can help improve your performance. Give us a ring on 0131 455 2599 or send us an email.

Environmental Chamber

Training in an environmental chamber means you can control the heat, humidity and altitude you at working at, fully replicating the environment you will be competing in to make sure you’re fully prepared for your event. In the past we have helped prepare athletes for a range of events including:

• Marathon des Sables
• Enduro World Series – Colorado
• World Cup XC MTB – Switzerland, Italy.
• UTMB – Mount Blanc Ultra
• The Breck Epic MTB stage race – Colorado
• Ironman – Austria, Lanzarote, Nice
• Western State 100

We can talk to you to see if working in the environmental chamber will help you improve your performance, and identify the conditions which will optimise your training. We can also adjust the environment gradually to enable your body to adapt at a measured pace.

Lactate Threshold Testing

Lactate threshold testing can help you improve your performance in endurance events such as cycling and running. By monitoring the level of lactate in your blood while you are exercising we can identify the specific training zone you are working in. This knowledge can be used to create a personalised training programme that will allow you to increase your threshold over time and enable you to improve your performance.

VO2 max testing

VO2 max testing measures the ability of your body to consume oxygen while you are exercising. During this graded exercise test you wear mask while you are exercising on a treadmill or a bike, and at set intervals the intensity of exercise increases until you can no longer sustain the pace.  VO2 max measurements can be one of the most important performance predictors for aerobic sports, and we regularly use this to help runners, cyclists and other athletes improve their performance.

Maximal Power Output / Functional Threshold Power test

Maximal Power Output test is useful for assessing performance in road cyclists, sportive riders and mountain bike riders. The test will establishes your maximum performance over a 60 second period on a bike using our specialist equipment. Your Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is the maximal power you can maintain over an hour. It is particularly useful for time trial specialists and olympic distance triathletes and which we can measure in our labs.

Skinfold assessment

During this test we measure the fat beneath the skin in order to determine your overall body composition and then discuss how this could influence your training.

Bespoke testing packages for individuals and companies

Most of the time it's best to get in contact with us, so we can talk you through how we can help you and then offer you a bespoke package, designed around your sport and needs.  We offer both individual and team packages.

Product testing

We also offer product testing for companies, if you are looking to get a piece of equipment tested please get in touch.  We have worked a number of different companies including Scottoiler.
