Biography

Alyson has maintained a strong academic record throughout her career. In her role as Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of St Andrews, Alyson formulated and implemented policy and practices relating to the quality of teaching and learning in the Faculty of Science. Then, as Acting Vice Principal (Learning & Teaching), she led on St Andrews’ enhancement-led Institutional Review and the arrangements for improving the student learning experience.

As Deputy Vice Chancellor at York St John University, Alyson had responsibility for all aspects of the development and delivery of the University’s academic strategy. This included leading the academic restructuring of the university through the creation of nine new schools and delivering a new structure to support and encourage research engagement.

Alyson has responsibility for strategic leadership in the areas of learning and teaching, ensuring we provide an unrivalled teaching and learning experience for all of our students, giving them the best possible chance of securing the right employment opportunities once they graduate.

Three of our six Schools – the Business School, School of Arts & Creative Industries and School of Applied Sciences – report into Alyson, along with the Department of Learning & Teaching Enhancement. She plays a key role in developing and retaining leading academics.
