Dr Barbara Farquharson



Barbara is a Registered General Nurse who has worked in a variety of clinical roles including CCU, as a specialist BHF cardiac rehabilitation nurse and briefly as a Team Leader in NHS 24.

She was awarded PhD studentship in 2004 as part of the NMAHP Research Training Scheme and her PhD study used psychological theory to explore how and when people seek help with cardiac symptoms. She is currently P.I on a grant from the Chief Scientist Office which will develop and test a behavioural intervention to reduce patient delay with heart symptoms.

Her other area of interest is in stress and nursing and she has collaborated on two CSO-funded projects led by Professors Marie & Derek Johnston, University of Aberdeen using real-time measures (psychological & physiological) to explore the levels, determinants and consequences of stress in nurses.

Current Post Grad projects
