Biography

Doug is a lecturer in Human Resource Management (HRM) in the Department of Management. His teaching interests include HRM, employment relations, leadership, organisational change and the political economy of work.

His responsibilities include:
• Programme Leadership on MSc Human Resource Management online delivery.
• Year 2 Tutor on Business Management undergraduate on-campus delivery.
• Module Leadership on "The Organisational Context of HR" on-campus and online delivery.
• Module Leadership on “Managing the Employment Relationship” international delivery.
• Co-module Leadership on “Introduction to HRM” on-campus delivery.
• Co-module Leadership on "Leading Strategic Decision Making" on-campus delivery.
• Personal Development Tutor on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Supervision on undergraduate, masters degree and MBA dissertations, and doctoral theses.

• Teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including:
o Introduction to HRM (undergraduate)
o Leadership in Organisations (undergraduate)
o Managing the Employment Relationship (undergraduate)

He has previously lectured at the University of Strathclyde, where he completed his PhD, titled 'Caring Within Constraint: Employment relations in voluntary sector social care in the context of personalisation, marketization and austerity.'

Doug's research interests include HRM and employment relations in social care, particularly in the voluntary sector, personalisation and Self-Directed Support (SDS), and the impacts of austerity on work. He has worked as a research associate at the Scottish Centre for Employment Research (SCER), and is currently a member of a social care research group, consisting of academics across the UK, and funded by organisations such as the Coalition of Care and Support Providers (CCPS) and Scottish Care. Prior to his career in academia, he was a HR practitioner. Out-with academia, he has been involved in the voluntary sector in a variety of capacities, including pro-bono consultancy work, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Glasgow North-West Citizens Advice Bureau (GNWCAB).

Doug is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
