Associate Professor

Biography

Dr Kenawy joined Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) in September 2022 as an Associate Professor at the School of Computing, Engineering, and the Built Environment. Prior to joining ENU, Inji was a lecturer in Architecture and Design at the University of Salford. Since graduation, Inji had successfully maintained the balance between teaching, research, and professional practice activities. During her academic career, she has been focusing on linking theory to practice by engaging with both professional practice and research projects to well equip the students for the current and future workplace. She has demonstrated a capacity for strong and strategic research planning and networking, undertaking both individual and collaborative research projects. Her research activities included the publication of peer-reviewed conference papers and journal articles, the attendance to exhibit her research in conferences and research-oriented workshops as well as successful bids for national and international research funds. Her recent projects include the BC-GGP project (CRUISE - £40K), the UIA EDRF project (IGNITION - €4.5 million), and the AHRC project (MOVE - £188K).

Dr Kenawy has been in the organising committee of international conferences, including the International Conference on Museum Environments: Challenges and Opportunities 2021, the Association of Architectural Schools of Australia 2011 Conference, and the First International Conference on Sustainability and the Future 2010. She is in the scientific committee of Passive and Low Energy Association (PLEA) conferences. Inji is also in the editorial panel of the Journal of Architecture, City and Environment; and the editorial board of Frontiers in Built Environment, specialty section: Sustainable Design and Construction. Dr Kenawy also acted as the external examiner in international doctorate juries at the University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès, Paris, France, and the external adviser in the collaborative validation panel for the University of East London and Ain Shams University in Egypt.

Inji is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Chartered Architect and Registered Architecture Engineer in the MENA region, and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). She was awarded her Ph.D. in 2013 from the school of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University, Australia. Along with her PhD studies, she was involved in lecturing Master’s Students at the School of Built Environment. In this same period, Inji was the HDR representative in the Strategic Research Centre (SRC) committee, the president of the CIB student chapter, a Research Support Officer, and a member of the Division of student’s life (ISS-Connect program). In 2012, she was awarded the Graham Treloar prize for the best higher degree by research student with a published paper on sustainability and a finalist in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment’s three minutes thesis competition.

Research Interests:
Environmental Design, Building Performance and Post Occupancy, Indoor/Outdoor Thermal Comfort Studies, Climate Change Mitigation, Urban Ecology, Inclusive Design, Smart Cities and Sustainable Built Environment.
