Professor

Biography

Prof. Islam Shyha is Head of Engineering and Mathematics at Edinburgh Napier University's School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment. He is a Professor of Manufacturing Engineering.
Prof. Shyha has worked in higher education for over 23 years. He received his Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice from Northumbria University, PhD from The University of Birmingham, MSc, and BSc from Alexandria University. He also worked at Northumbria University, The Birmingham University and Alexandria University.
He has extensive experience in the conventional and non-conventional machining of composite materials. His work is supported by the UK Research Council, Innovate UK and industry. Prof. Shyha is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), teaches mechanical and manufacturing engineering courses and supervises MSc and PhD projects in advanced manufacturing Engineering.
He also held honorary posts at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom and the Vietnamese German University in Ho Chi Minh City. Prof. Shyha has over 130 publications in journals and international conferences to his credit, as well as a patent on a novel composite machining tool. He also contributes to the global research communities and actively participates as a reviewer for a number of manufacturing and materials journals.
