Biography

Obtained an Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Systems Integration.
Currently a lecturer in Automation and Control, and B.Eng. Mechatronics programme leader. A member of the IET and a Chartered Engineer.
With over 35 years of experience in automation and control, including posts as principle engineer with an aerospace manufacturer and leading a team of graduate engineers designing and project managing automation projects for a major car tyre manufacturer before taking up a post with the university. While at university has undertaken many major automation projects for a variety of clients nationally and internationally in areas including utilities, brewing, distilling, and many manufacturing industries including aerospace and pharmaceutical manufacture. Has held a partnership and directorship in two automation companies supplying advanced control solutions to major organisations.
In particular he has been involved in the application of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) technology to solve advanced automation problems. His current work includes control system design and software modelling techniques. This industrial experience has been used to develop the universities automation and control laboratories.
