Biography

Marleen Spaargaren is originally from The Netherlands, where she studied for her Undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Leiden. She moved to Edinburgh in October 2003 to study for an MSc degree in English and Scottish Dialectology at the University of Edinburgh. She stayed on for a PhD degree in Historical English Linguistics, which she completed in 2009. During and after her PhD, Marleen taught English and General Linguistics to undergraduate students at the University of Edinburgh. She started working for Edinburgh Napier University on pre-sessional English courses in 2010. She enjoys this work very much and hopes to obtain a CELTA certificate in May 2012. Marleen has a great passion for the English Language and her main interests include teaching Academic English and the History of the English language.
