Biography
Dr. Navid Rahimi is a Research Fellow at Edinburgh Napier University. He is a computer scientist with a background in computational modeling and computer vision, emphasizing multimodal data analysis and optimization algorithms. Dr. Rahimi is driven by the balance between the rigor of mathematical theories and the intuition required in machine learning.
He completed his PhD in 2017 from the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin. For his PhD project, he devised an algorithm for the geometrical simplification and uncertainty quantification of models based on the simulation of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). Subsequently, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at three universities, both in the UK and internationally. His work involved developing software packages for 3D meshing models and cutting-edge deep learning models in computer vision models for video and image analysis.
Before joining Edinburgh Napier University, he worked as a Data Scientist in the industry, analyzing aerial imagery and deploying machine learning models into production. He also served as a Data Engineer, building pipelines for ingesting geospatial data structures. His academic background includes an MSc in Computational Mechanics from Germany and a BSc in Civil Engineering, providing a foundation in computational engineering and sciences.
