Biography

Dr Stephanie Valentin joined Edinburgh Napier University in January 2023 as an Associate Professor in Physiotherapy. Stephanie is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is a Chartered Physiotherapist. She primarily teaches on the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) in the School of Health & Social Care.

Stephanie gained her BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, in 2001. She worked in NHS Grampian as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist from 2001-2009. She then worked as research assistant at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, coordinating several clinical trials evaluating treatments for whiplash associated disorders (WAD). From 2011 -2015 she undertook her PhD at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, Austria, on comparative bipedal and quadrupedal spinal biomechanics. In 2015 she moved back to Scotland where she worked as a research associate on a Chief Scientist Office (CSO) funded project evaluating muscle activity during land and aquatic exercises in low back pain. She then worked as a Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland in Sport and Exercise Science from 2015-2023 with a focus on teaching anatomy, biomechanics, and research methods, after which she took on her current role at Edinburgh Napier University.
