Dr Tiziana Susca

Research Fellow

Biography

Dr Tiziana Susca is a research fellow at the Edinburgh Napier University's School of Engineering and The Built Environment (SEBE).

In 2005, Dr Susca earned, at Polytechnic University of Bari, a master's degree in building engineering and in 2011 a Ph.D. in Engineering with a focus on sustainability. During her Ph.D., she was visiting scholar for one year and a half at the Earth Institute’s Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) at Columbia University and at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), a world leading institution in climate research, in New York City. At CCRS and GISS Dr Susca connected the study about the effect of the variation of surface albedo on climate with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. The output of her research was an innovative methodology to include the effect of the variation of surface albedo in LCA.

In 2012 Dr Susca was a research fellow at the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) in Bologna, Italy. Then, she moved to Berlin, where, in 2013, she was a Dahrendorf postdoctoral fellow in the working group "Infrastructures and Climate Change". From 2014 to 2016 Dr Susca was a research associate at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin.

For her research, Dr Susca was awarded with several prizes. Among the others, in 2012, she got a sponsorship from the European Space Agency (ESA) to present her research at NASA’s International Workshop on Environmental and Alternative Energy held in Greenbelt, Maryland (USA). The same year, Dr Susca received the Young Research Scientist Award issued by the Environmental Urban Pollution conference (Elsevier) in Amsterdam.

Dr Susca is available to tutor PhD students keen to conduct research in the fields of urban and building sustainability.
