Connect the dots and spot the gaps - School of Computing PhD Workshop Series

Start date and time

Wednesday 2 May 2018

Location

16:00 in Core44, room C44, Merchiston campus

In this talk I will discuss the two most valuable insights I have picked up during my research.
The first part is a presentation on how graph theory has been applied across multiple domains, in particular social networks, telecommunication networks and knowledge management. Graph theory, like other mathematical subjects, is usually described using a contrived language and defined using esoteric symbols. I will provide a simpler and demystified version of the topic in order to show the many connections that exists between different fields and how to search for new ones.

Secondly I will present a "game" that can be played to easily spot gaps in the knowledge, this is especially useful for those in search for general forms or new problems.
