In this seminar, organised by Dr Shane Horgan, Dr Richard Hough (University of West Florida) will be presenting on 'Legitimacy, Accountability and the Use of Force in American Policing'.

Dr Richard Hough began his career as a police officer in 1979 and held positions throughout the police service and adult and juvenile corrections. At the University of West Florida, Richard leads courses on policing, investigations, and the use of force in criminal justice. Richard’s research centres on homicide and its investigation, and the use of force by officers. An expert witness in the U.S. federal court system, he testifies regarding fatal use of force by police and major crime investigations. He is the author of The Use of Force in Criminal Justice (Hough, 2018), Criminal Investigations: The Essentials (Forthcoming, 2020), and co-author of American Homicide (Hough and McCorkle, 2016).
