Visiting researcher - Katrin Glatz Brubakk (Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) to present on traumatherapy of refugees

Start date and time

Wednesday 6 March 2019

Location

Edinburgh Napier University (Sighthill Campus)

Katrin Glatz Brubakk (Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) specialises in traumatherapy, especially for refugees.

She has worked for Doctors without Borders in Cairo, Egypt, at a clinic for victims of torture and sexual violence and will work again for them in June. She has also volunteered in Greece six times over the last three years to support refugees (both in Lesvos and on the border of Macedonia).

In this talk, organised by Dr James Munro, she will share her experiences of working with persons in extreme and insecure situations. Is there anything we can do when insecurity is high? What does being a refugee and experiencing trauma do to mental health? What does the current situation in Lesvos, Greece, do to the refugees’ mental health? Questions are welcomed.
