Mark Beaumont to deliver chancellors talk
Mark has cycled around the world twice, smashing the circumnavigation World Record on both occasions. His most recent attempt captured the imagination of a global audience by targeting Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, as he completed the 18,000-mile route in less than 79 days.

School of Applied Sciences Associate Lecturer Dr Lesley Ingram spent a year as Mark’s coach, preparing him for his Around the World in 80 Days challenge, testing his fitness and issuing weekly training plans to get him in the shape of his life. Lesley will also participate in the Q&A session that forms part of this event.

The University’s next Chancellor Talk is coming your way this October – and our special guest is none other than record breaking Scottish cyclist, adventurer, broadcaster, documentary maker and author, Mark Beaumont!

Mark has cycled around the world twice, smashing the circumnavigation World Record on both occasions. His most recent attempt captured the imagination of a global audience by targeting Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, as he completed the 18,000-mile route in less than 79 days.

Over the past decade, Mark's epic documentaries have taken viewers to over 100 countries, into the Arctic, the high mountains and around the Commonwealth, also surviving capsize in the mid-Atlantic.

Mark has close ties with Edinburgh Napier.

Mark will be signing copies of his new book ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ after the event, and we’ll have some copies available for you to purchase on the night
