Self-healing nanocoatings for protection against steel corrosion
This chapter deals with the issue of corrosion protection of steel surfaces. The corrosion process and approaches to corrosion protection are presented. The chapter presents a critical review of recent research and developments on protective nanocoatings. A range of coating materials, including polymers, metals and ceramics, is described. The focus is on self-repairing nanocoatings. Various self-healing mechanisms and attitudes for achieving self-healing anti-corrosion coatings are examined. Developments and trends in coatings technology are also discussed. The final sections emphasise particularly on functional nanocoatings in commercial applications.
